Fall leaves in water

Poised on the knife edge of hot and cold,
leaves die, turning colors dull and bold.
Frantic to ready for the dying
of the year, God’s creation trying
the future to assure and mold.

I sit, poised between joy and sorrow;
make lists of things to do tomorrow.
My energy reluctant, flagging,
to listen to my inner nagging:
I need some extra time to borrow.

But time rolls on, passing, flowing,
none knows the hour of his going.
How we fill the minutes of each day
totals up our life.  Oh, God! May
I finish life still learning, growing.
